The A10X chip, likely to power the three new iPad models rumoured for next year, has appeared on GeekBench – and it’s a beast.
The new processor tallied a score of 4,236 on the single-core test and a 6,588 score on the multi-core test, both of which are very high.
For comparison, the A10 chipset is currently used in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and we’ve benchmarked the former, which scored 3,209 in our single-core test and 5,359 in our multi-core test.
The A9X chip, used in the current iPad Pro and the iPad Pro 9.7-inch, scored 5,523 in our multi-core test on GeekBench.
As expected then, the A10X chip is more powerful than both of its predecessors. It follows the trend – shown on the graph below by Techtastic – where each new chip is more powerful than the last.

Of course, there’s a logic to how Apple names its new chips. New iPad models use an enhanced version of the chip inside the current iPhones, with Apple adding an ‘X’ to the chip’s name in order to differentiate it. That’s why the iPads due next year will run on the A10X.
Unfortunately, those iPads are just rumours at this point, so we won’t have anything more concrete until they’re announced. Be sure to stay tuned for more in that respect in the near future.
