Android users wondering whether they can make it to the shops and back before the deluge begins can now venture out with a little more certainty.
The awesome Dark Sky app, which has been around on iOS for a number of years now, has arrived on the Google Play store.
While the app has earned praise for its clean design, the standout feature is the hyperlocal whether reports.
However, while this feature is included in a $3.99/£2.99 price for iOS, on Android it’ll require an annual Dark Sky Premium subscription fee.
Users can try before they buy with a two-week, all-access preview.
The app itself is free, but to access the minute-by-minute forecasts, weather alerts and notifications for when a weather event is about to start and stop.
Those who don’t wish to pay the $2.99 annual subscription, will still get weather maps, 24-hour to 7-day forecasts and the current conditions.

The one feature Dark Sky users on Android will enjoy that iOS counterparts can’t in the shape of a number of homescreen widgets.
There are Next Hour widgets showing rain forecasts, while Today offers a forecast for the day, while there’s also a Weekly widget.
“A subscription for a weather app‽ It’s kind of weird — so this will definitely be an experiment,” the company wrote on its Forecast blog.
“But being able to successfully pull off subscription pricing means it’ll be a lot easier to offer new and expanded features in the future. We’ve got a bunch of cool new stuff in the pipeline, and it sure beats cluttering up the app with ads.”
