A recent Tesla staff hire could point to an as-yet unrevealed feature of the Model 3: a heads up display.
Many were a little puzzled at the dashboard of the Tesla Model 3 when it was unveiled on April 1. Or rather, the lack of a dashboard.
All the affordable electric car has in the way of controls or dials is a single 15-inch touchscreen display, leading many to question the driving experience it would provide. What about the speedo, for example?
That question may have just been answered by a recently revealed Tesla hire. According to BGR, Elon Musk’s company has just hired Milan Kovac, formerly the principle engineer at Skully Systems.
Who is Skully Systems, you ask? It’s a company that makes a futuristic motorcycle helmet with a built-in heads up display (HUD).
Could the Tesla Model 3 have its 15-inch display supplemented by a HUD beamed onto the windscreen? It would certainly explain a lot.
Interestingly, in response to questions about the lack of a proper dashboard or an apparent HUD, Elon Musk tweeted the following:

This is in reference to the Model 3’s protracted reveal, with more features set to be revealed in the lead-up to its launch at the end of 2017.

Musk is saying that the dashboard we saw on April 1 isn’t feature-complete. Tie this in with a Tesla rep’s confirmation that there will be no traditional instrument cluster added to the Model 3 at a later date, and all signs point to a futuristic HUD for the new Model 3.
