Tesla confirms new home battery launch on April 30
A Tesla executive has confirmed that the luxury electric car maker will be launching a new type of home battery at its planned April 30 event.
Last month, Tesla CEO and all-round genius Elon Musk teased the launch of a “Major new Tesla product line” from his company that wasn’t a new car.
Those who are attentive to Musk’s utterings (which is a lot of people) pointed out that he had previously spoken about working on a new type of battery that could power homes in a far more efficient way than previous solutions.
Sure enough, that seems to be what’s going to be announced on April 30. As BuzzFeed reports, Tesla’s VP of investor relations Jeff Evanson has let the cat out of the bag.
“We have decided to share a bit about what we will announce on the
30th,” wrote Evanson, in a message that has been confirmed as authentic.
“We will introduce the Tesla home battery and a very large utility
scale battery. We will explain the advantages of our solutions and why
past battery options were not compelling.”

Precisely what these new batteries will be able to do that previous examples couldn’t isn’t yet known, but it’s thought that they could enable a properly set-up house to go off the power grid completely.
Tesla has also been working on home charging systems for its range of luxury electric cars, so don’t be surprised to see this worked into the whole home battery concept on April 30.
