Tesco Mobile’s new Anytime Upgrade Flex deal is your latest way to bag a fresh phone on the cheap
Tesco Mobile is pushing to attract more people onto its network with the introduction of Anytime Upgrade Flex, which allows customers to either ramp up or scale down their tariff once a month.
The idea behind Anytime Upgrade Flex is to give customers more flexibility over how they control their monthly payments in relation to how much of their minutes, texts and data package they use. For example, if customers aren’t looking like they are going to need their full data allowance for a month, they can choose to lower their tariff for that month, reducing the cost of their bill.
But the other perk to Anytime Upgrade Flex is that it allows Tesco Mobile customers to upgrade to the latest smartphones from the likes of Apple and Samsung, without getting a new contract after 24 months. Instead they can simply hand back their phone, providing it’s in a workable condition, and get new handset but with the calls, texts, and data package of their current deal.
Under this deal a 32GB iPhone 7 will be available for a monthly cost of £31.49 with no upfront cost. Tesco Mobile hasn’t mentioned whether the reveal of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X will have an affect on the pricing of this package.
For Android fans, Tesco Mobile is offering the Samsung Galaxy S8 for £35.75 per month with 4GB of data usage thrown in instead of the previous 2GB allowance.

“We know many customers want the latest phones but don’t always find accessible deals – which is why we’ve launched our lowest ever monthly payments. We know customers may want to change their usage, so we’ve also brought in Flex so they can move their tariff up and down,” said Simon Groves, chief marketing officer at Tesco Mobile.

It’s worth noting that contracts with Anytime Upgrade Flex run for 30 months, some six months extra over contracts found with other mobile operators, so your overall costs could be higher than a shorter contract with higher monthly costs. So weigh up the total costs, contract parameters and flexibility before diving in with Tesco Mobile – or indeed any other offers from mobile operators and phone dealers.
Also, know that Tesco isn’t the only mobile network to offer flexible packages and phone upgrade deals – many of the UK’s big players have similar propositions, so as ever it’s worth shopping around.
