Tesco Hudl now only £79

The original Tesco tablet, the Hudl, has dropped in price to just £79 as its successor launches.

As the mightily impressive Hudl 2 hits shops (well, Tesco shops anyway) at just £10 more than the original Hudl launched for, you might have wondered what has become of the original.

The first Hudl was a big surprise, to say the least. Here was a supermarket-branded tablet launched for a knock-down price. No one expected it to be any good, but it was. It offered a near-stock-Android experience in a cute 7-inch package.

Now, with the new and improved Hudl 2 hitting Tesco stores around the UK, that compact original has received a price cut to just £79. That represents a drop of £40 from its original price.

However, if you want to pick up what is still a very good 7-inch tablet for a bargain price, you’ll have to be quick. “The much-loved hudl1 is now only £79,” reads a banner on the Tesco website, “but hurry, when it’s gone, it’s gone.”

This suggests that Tesco is simply selling off remaining Hudl stock, so quantities could be quite limited.

The Hudl 2, meanwhile, is available now for £129. It brings a larger and much-improved 8.3-inch Full HD display, a potent 1.8GHz Intel Atom CPU backed by 2GB of RAM, and Android 4.4.2.
