Telmap Navigator Hits BlackBerry App World

48 hours old and already something the App Store doesn't do...

It may have finally been confirmed after two years and three generations of software on the iPhone, but turn-by-turn third party mapping has already hit BlackBerry App World after just a few days.

Telmap is the sprinter out the blocks here making its popular Navigator mapping solution available to Bold, 800, Pearl 8110 and Curve 8310 and 8900 owners immediately.

The move isn’t entirely unexpected however as Telmap has an established relationship with RIM and has already been available via the likes of Vodafone, Orange, O2, Carphone Warehouse, MapQuest, Sprint and ATT to name but a few. That said, with application stores typically more used to hosting 99p drinking games and fart jokes it demonstrates great confidence in the fledgling BlackBerry service.

“The new BlackBerry App World is an important channel for us to make the Telmap Navigator the leading application available for the mass”, said Oren Nissim, CEO, Telmap. “We are happy to extend the success to many more people, and make it simple and easy to access using their BlackBerry Smartphone.”

Of course the interesting aspect in all this will be to see how App World integration affects sales compared to more traditional channels. If I were Telmap I’d be quietly optimistic – it didn’t do too badly for MP3s…
