Tag Heuer reveals luxury Connected Watch to battle Apple

Tag Heuer has announced its long-awaited Android Wear smartwatch in the form of a luxury timepiece called the Connected Watch.

The $1,500 timepiece, revealed at an event in New York on Monday, features analogue-style digital watch faces based around the firm’s classic Carrera watch. There are three watch faces total to choose from.

The Connected Watch is powered by Intel chips, promises an all-day battery life and has a touchscreen constructed from super-strong sapphire crystal.

Aside from the Intel processors, there’s everything you’d expect from an Android Wear timepiece, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a microphone for voice commands.

“Today is the marriage of watch valley and Silicon Valley, the marriage of America and Switzerland,” said Tag CEO Jean Claude Biver during the event.

Biver, in an interview earlier on Monday, said the Connected Watch “almost the same functionality” as the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch Edition can cost unto $17,000 thanks to the company’s gilding, but the titanium Connected Watch will surely give it a run for its money in terms of luxury.

The watch is available to order from the company’s website today, as well as from a number of luxury boutiques.
