T-Mobile First With BlackBerry Curve 8900

Grabs the first UK shipment to leave other telcos eating its dust.

While O2 may have made the headlines earlier in the week by revealing it had snagged the BlackBerry Curve 8900, it appears the telco left off one important fact: T-Mobile’s getting it first.

Yep, while the 8900 will do the rounds on most UK networks it seems those sneaky Germans have stolen a march and grabbed this inevitable Christmas hit ahead of everyone else by securing the first shipment of devices.

Consequently T-Mobile will be flogging the ‘Bold Lite’ (as many have dubbed it) starting today and while it is waiting until the last minute to expose price plans I can reveal the handset will be available from free on £35pm plans and upwards – while you should expect a nice surprise on slightly cheaper contracts too.

Now this is quite a coup for T-Mobile since the 8900 looks set to be the people’s Bold as it offers virtually all the same features are the RIM’s flagship Qwerty device (minus the 3G) and brings it to the midrange market. In short then you’ll get a svelte (109 x 60 x 13.5mm), light (110g) smartphone with impressive 2.4in 480 x 360 pixel display, fast 512MHz CPU, GPS, a 3.2MP snapper, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD expansion supporting up to 16GB, WiFi and a 3.5mm headphone jack. RIM devices even sync with iTunes these days via BlackBerry Media Sync.

In short, if someone won’t treat you to a Curve 8900 this Christmas I suggest you cancel their present and treat yourself…

”’In related news”’ T-Mobile has also added a Last.fm search function into its Mobile Jukebox service allowing users to find their favourite artists, receive recommendations, listen to previews and buy and download OTA. Nifty.
