Microsoft Surface Book 2: Everything you need to know
Microsoft has pulled a proverbial rabbit out of its hat, sneakily revealing the all-new Surface Book 2 in the US. Here’s everything we know so far in the UK, including the Surface Book 2’s release date, specs and price.
(Update: October 13, 2017): During Microsoft’s Future Decoded event in London today, Microsoft Surface chief Panos Panay confirmed that the 13-inch Surface Book 2 would go on sale in the UK on November 16, while the 15-inch version will become available “early next year”.
We thought rather highly of the first Surface Book when it was unveiled back in 2016, awarding it an impressive 8/10 score in our review. So it goes without saying we’re excited by what Microsoft’s latest high-end laptop has to offer. Now the company has updated the 13-inch model, and added a 15-inch version into the mix.
Introducing the product in an official Windows blog post, Microsoft Surface chief Panos Panay describes it as “the most powerful Surface laptop yet” – but do the new device’s specs back up his claims?
There’s little reason to believe otherwise, at least until we’ve used the Surface Book 2 in full.

Surface Book 2 Specs: How powerful is Microsoft’s 2017 Surface Book?
For starters, there’s a new-gen Intel 8th-gen ‘Coffee Lake’ Core processor on-board, complemented by GeForce GTX 1050 and 1060 discrete graphics options.
According to Microsoft, this makes the Surface Book 2 “five times more powerful than the original and…twice as powerful as the latest MacBook Pro.” We’ll be independently testing these claims when we review it shortly, but things look good on paper.
In terms of battery life, Microsoft is still boasting “all-day battery life” for the Surface Book 2, which is measured as “17 hours of video playback” – or 70% more than the latest MacBook Pro, if you take the Redmond-based firm’s assertions as gospel.
Here are the full specs for both the 13-inch and 15-inch devices.
