Sunscreenr is a UV camera that shows if you’re wearing enough suncream
Over the weekend, summer well and truly arrived in most of the UK. Which means it’s time to start thinking about skin safety.
We all know we’re meant to apply suncream, but how do you know if you’re wearing enough? Or if you’ve missed a bit? Sunscreenr can help.
It’s a mini UV camera that makes suncream look as dark as mud. It does this by imaging ultraviolet light – that’s the same UV light that suncream is designed to block.
Any parts not covered will appear light. As you sweat, swim and wipe yourself with a towel, your skin appears to lighten through Sunscreenr’s lens. When that happens, it’s time to reapply.
If you’re using it on your own, you can mount it on a tripod, record yourself, and watch the footage back to see if you’ve missed anywhere. The viewfinder is shielded by an eyecup, so you’ll be able to see clearly even in bright sun.

Plus it’s sand- and waterproof, making it perfect for use by the pool or at the beach.
It’s raised over $9,000 of a $45,000 goal and still has 45 days to go. Pledge $74 (£51) and it can be yours on an early bird. The only downside? If successful, it’ll ship in December. Which isn’t exactly the sunniest month of the year. Still, it’ll be handy for next year’s summer hols.
