Stunning timelapse shows London as you’ve never seen it before

A crowdsourced photography project, which united 40 London-based photography enthusiasts, has resulted in the most comprehensive timelapse video ever shot in the capital.

The LapseLondon clip, which you can see below, brings together a total of 35,000 individual photo frames to create a unique view of a city always on the move.

It harnessed 40 hours of total photography in eight iconic locations, such as Horseguard’s Parade, the Houses of Parliament, Kings Cross Station and Marble Arch, in order to create the three-and-a-half minute high-speed video.

LondonLapse was the brain child of Triggertrap CEO Haje Jan Kamps, whose company creates gadgets and mobile apps to provide photographers with interesting ways of remote triggering their camera.

“I love photography, I like bringing people together, and I adore London,” Kamps told us. “This project was the perfect triumvirate of the things I like the most.

“We had hoped for 10-12 people but the response and enthusiasm for this project was overwhelming. I guess a lot people shared my sentiments. It’s truly awesome… one of the best things I’ve done.

“Bringing photographers together is brilliant – there aren’t that many opportunities to collaborate. Doing this was a rare exception, and the result speaks for itself.”

Tools like Triggertrap and dedicated in-camera modes have helped the popularity of timelapse photography grow in recent years.

The new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus also feature an easy-to-use timelapse mode, enabling users to capture frames at intelligent intervals before automatically condensing the footage into a video.
