Star Wars: The Force Awakens ticket sales in the UK are insanely high

We knew the next Star Wars movie would be a hit, but this is crazy.

Over one million tickets for Star Wars: The Force Awakens have now been sold in the UK alone.

The sci-fi blockbuster is breaking all manner of records, as figures trickle in from British cinema chains.

Vue has already sold “in excess of 355,000 tickets”, as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.

As a result, Vue has been forced to arrange “an additional 200 screens for opening day…and a further 100 for the opening weekend”.

The report also notes figures provided by Phil Clap, UK Cinema Association CEO, revealing that Star Wars ticket sales at Odeon are in excess of 500,000 units.

Clap says the total number of pre-sales is now “way beyond one million”. Pair that with an average ticket price of around £7, and the money starts to rack up.

“The numbers far exceed anything we’ve seen before for any movie in the UK,” adds Clap, as quoted by THR.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuts on Wednesday, with a nationwide release set for Thursday this week.
