Spotify is planning a big redesign and to launch a web browser version of its music streaming service, according to recent reports.
Multiple sources apparently revealed to TechCrunch that Spotify will move away from an app-only access model, and allow users to use the service through a normal web browser. It will also improve music discovery by allowing users to follow ‘influencers.’
The aim is to make the service more accessible, and in the process take the fight to other streaming music services such as Rdio and Napster, which both offer web browser access.
As well as improving the service, TechCrunch also believes the company will reduce prices to pull in more customers. Currently it charges $10 or £10 a month for full access including the mobile app, or $5 or £5 for ad-free desktop client access, with suggestions the full access rate could drop to £8/$8.
