Spotify now has 30 million Premium subscribers

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has revealed the streaming giant now has 30 million paying subscribers.

In a tweet sent out on Monday evening, the Swede showed the number of users handing over £10/$10 a month for Spotify Premium is continuing to soar.

Spotify’s last official announcement came back in June when it crossed the 20 million threshold, meaning it has added another 10 million folks in around 9 months.

The landmark figure also comes amid ever-increasing competition in the marketplace.

With Apple Music opening up to Android late last year, Cupertino’s first entry into streaming has racked up 11 million subscribers.

The likes of Tidal, Amazon Prime and Google Play Music All Access/YouTube Red are all vying for the same monthly dues.

It has long been speculated whether Apple Music could begin to cut into Spotify’s dominance of the streaming landscape, but growth continues to accelerate.

The company is believed to have around 100m million overall users, so there’s still huge scope for converting those folks into paying customers.
