Spotify For Android – Big App Update On the Way

Android owners don’t always get treated that well by app developers. Spotify for iPhone tends to get an update every month, keeping it in tip-top condition. Android? It hasn’t been updated since November and has more issues than a 40-year-old former child actor.

However, Spotify is working on releasing a big update that will solve many of the current Android app’s problems. Talking to The Verge, sources “close to Spotify” say that a “major” new version of the Android app is on the way. Top of the to-do list is making the app work much better with devices running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. At present, the app does not officially support this latest version of the Android OS, and crashes frequently with any ICS phone, according to many an irate Spotify forum poster.

The poor performance of the current Android app is made all the more annoying by the unfortunate truth that those using the mobile app are the most loyal Spotify customers of them all. To use Spotify on a mobile phone, you need to subscribe to the £10 a month Premium service. Those tied to a computer can get away with paying nowt, or £4.99 for unlimited streaming access.

Spotify currently has more than three million Premium subscribers – many of them Android owners. Have you had trouble with the Spotify Android app? Drop us a comment below.
