Spotify Android App Update Released

Spotify has released a new version of its streaming app for Android smartphones. It has been a long time coming, but now the Android version is roughly on-par with its iOS rival.

The new version of Spotify for Android is here. It boasts an improved interface and a bundle of new features that mean it’s no longer a poor relation to the iOS edition. It’s available from the Google Play app store now.

Among the features added to the app are scrobbling and playlist folder support. Our pick of the bunch, though, is a widget that lets you control playback from a home screen.

In order to use Spotify on mobile phones, you need to be a Premium subscriber. This costs £9.99 a month, but gives you unlimited streaming of Spotify’s millions of tracks, as well as the ability to save tracks for offline playback. A free trial is also available.

The Spotify Android app is free to download.
