Special Yelp app launched for the Amazon Fire phone
A special Yelp app has been launched for the Amazon Fire phone, taking advantage of its unique dynamic perspective UI.
One of the few companies selected to partner with Amazon early on, Yelp’s special new app uses the Fire phone’s gesture capabilities to provide an innovative map experience.
The new Yelp app introduced Amazon Fire phone specific features like being able to bring up the search box or menu bar with a flick of the wrist, thanks to the phone’s One Handed Gesturing.
Using the Fire phone’s four front-facing cameras, you’ll be able to scroll through the user reviews and any associated photographs with one hand.
The Fire phone’s home carousel will also help users to navigate quickly to recently searched for businesses on the home screen.
The Amazon Fire phone is available to pre-order now in the US and Yelp has confirmed the app will be accessible at launch from the Amazon Fire Phone AppStore.
However, that’s not all. Amazon and Yelp have also worked together to integrate Yelp’s local reviews, photos and rating into the Amazon mapping service on the Fire phone. When in a new city, you’ll be able to search for local businesses or restaurants within the map, but then also be presented with the integrated Yelp content.
You can even tilt your Fire phone to the side to show the Yelp ratings for each local business in the Amazon map.
The Amazon Fire phone was announced on June 18 as a US exclusive, at least initially.
It offers a 4.7-inch IPS LCD HD display running on a 2.2GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM with Adreno 330 graphics.
There’s a 13-megapixel rear camera, but the Amazon Fire phone’s main party piece is its four 1200-degree field of view forward-facing cameras that track your head movements, enhancing content with more depth rather than making it pop out of the screen.
No doubt, the new Yelp app is the first of many that will take advantage of the Fire phone’s new SDK.
