Soundboks is a massive, loud battery-powered speaker

Most speakers on Kickstarter are portable, pocket-sized models that play tunes from your smartphone. Think picnics, or lazing by the beach. Soundboks is a little different.

For starters, it’s massive. It looks like the kind of thing you’d see on a festival stage, rather than piping out some tunes at a twee get together.

But here’s the kicker – it’s battery powered, so you can take it anywhere with you. Providing you have a car with a boot big enough to fit it in, that is. It’s built to withstand the elements too, being rain-, splash-, shock- and snow-proof.

With a 30-hour battery life, it’ll outlast all but the hardiest of party-goers. It comes with two batteries, so should your party outlast the first, just swap in the second and keep going all weekend. Though Monday morning is going to be quite a struggle after that.

The battery juices up in three hours.

Turn it all the way up to the maximum volume of 119dB – that’s the equivalent of a live concert – and it’ll only last eight hours. You’ll get 30 hours out of the volume equivalent to a bar or nightclub, which is quite loud enough in our opinion.

Want one? Pledge $459 (£328) and it can be yours on an early bird. Though numbers are limited. It’s passed its funding goal and will ship in April.
