Sony’s Stunning New Media PCs

A new series and a moment of styling genius.

The one thing you can say for certain about Sony at the moment is it’s consistently inconsistent. Here are two products clearly created on a good day.

The LA1 is the perfect personification of this as it combines all the functionality of a PC and TV in one single compact and stylistically inspired package.

A 19in 1680 x 1050 widescreen display is at the LA1’s sexy heart and is backed up by a Core 2 Duo T5600 processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a GeForce Go 7400 graphics card and capacious 300GB hard drive. Being multimedia focused both analogue and DVB-T digital TV tuners are fitted and while it comes pre-installed with Windows Media Center 2005 the LA1 is also certified as Vista Capable and Premium Ready.

The other positive part of Sony’s sunny 24 hours is the XL200 series which comprises the XL202 and XL201. These media centre PCs are chock a block full of the latest features with Core 2 Duo E6400 and E6300 processors respectively, a gig of RAM, 500GB and 250GB hard drives, 256MB GeForce Go 7600 graphics cards and, on the XL202, a Blu-ray rewriteable drive.

Naturally analogue and digital TV tuners come as standard and the two machines are ViiV compliant, ship with Media Center 2005 and certified as Vista Capable and Premium Ready.

No word yet on pricing or availability but with the inevitable Blu-ray push due in the build up to Christmas I can’t see them being more than a month or two away.
