Sony Xperia Z5 display tipped for phablet upgrade

For better or worse, Sony is known for making minor changes to new versions of its flagship Xperia Z series smartphones.
That could be about to change however, as a new report suggests the company is eyeing a new design ploy for the rumoured Sony Xperia Z5.
According to prolific rumour-spinner ‘Leaksfly’ (via Mobipicker), the unconfirmed Xperia Z5 will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display.
That’s a step up from a 5.2-inch 1080p display that’s featured on all of Sony’s recent flagship releases – the Xperia Z4, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, and Xperia Z2.
The move is, apparently, an attempt to better tackle the mooted iPhone 6S Plus and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5, both of which are expected to land this autumn with phablet-esque displays.
The report also claims we’ll see 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a Snapdragon 810 chip featuring.
While the latter specs are likely, we can’t speak to the 5.5-inch display just yet as Sony hasn’t confirmed any such details.

Fortunately, this isn’t the first we’ve heard about the Sony Xperia Z5.
Just last week, a separate report pointed to the rumoured Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact phones being developed under ‘S60’ and ‘S70’ codenames.
