Sony Xperia Z4 reportedly gets FCC certification

The latest in Sony Xperia Z4 rumour-dom is that the upcoming smartphone just received certification in the US, courtesy of the Federal Communications Commission.

According to XperiaBlog, a new Sony Xperia handset has made it through the FCC’s device checks, making it eligible for retail in the states.

The product comes tagged with a ‘type number’ of PM-0850-BV, as well as an FCC ID of PY7-PM0850.

It also lists the firmware as 25.0.A.0.33, which mimics the expected build naming format for Sony’s fast-approaching Lollipop update.

It’s also a high build number than the current Xperia firmware, which could signal that this will indeed be an upgraded handset.

There’s nothing that says for sure that this device is the Xperia Z4, but with rumours suggesting that Sony’s next flagship will land in just six weeks time, we can’t afford to ignore this.

Also included on the document is that the device will support LTE Bands 2, 5, and 7, but is otherwise largely unhelpful.

This follows earlier news that the Sony Xperia Z4 had been given the thumbs-up by Japanese mobile carriers too.

So what are expecting from the Sony Xperia Z4? Most rumours point to a 5.2-inch QHD display, a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 CPU, and 4GB of RAM.

It’s also expected to carry a 20.7-megapixel camera, Google’s latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, a waterproof chassis, and a release date in early March  (read: Mobile World Congress).
