Sony Xperia Z3v and Smartwatch 3 hit US on Verizon
Sony has announced it will release its latest flagship handset, the Sony Xperia Z3 in the United States next month.
The device, unveiled for the European market at the IFA tech show in September, will launch as the almost-identical Xperia Z3v, as an exclusive on the Verizon Wireless network.
The Verizon announcement means Sony, which has struggled to gain traction in the United States mobile market, now has two major networks carrying the Z3 following T-Mobile’s announcement it’ll also stock the device.
The handset features the same 5.2-inch 1080p display with the 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, the market-leading waterproofing tech and the 20.7-megapixel camera.
However, the presence of the ‘v’ in the name signifies some slight differences over the stock Sony device. Reports from US assert the device is slightly thicker and wider, while battery life may be slightly less than the two days Sony advertises in Europe.
It will arrive on October 23 for $200 on contact and Verizon is also throwing in a Qi wireless charging solution for good measure.
Also on the way is the Sony Smartwatch 3, which will arrive on the network towards the end of the year, although there’s no sign of the Xperia Z3 Compact.
