Sony Xperia Z1 confirmed as 20.7MP camera smartphone

Sony has officially unveiled its 20.7-megapixel camera smartphone during its pre-IFA press conference, the Sony Xperia Z1.

Bringing together a 1/2.3 20.7-megapixel Emor RS CMOS sensor and BIONZ image processing engine, the Sony Xperia Z1  still maintains a slim profile, unlike the camera centric Samsung Galaxy S4.

Previously known as the Sony Xperia i1 ‘Honami’, the smartphone was given an official launch today at the IFA press event, September 4.

“Xperia Z1 represents a significant milestone for Sony in our continued efforts to deliver unforgettable experience to our consumers”, said Kunimasa Suzuki, President and CEO of Sony Mobile Communications. “Not only by bringing the power of Sony to the smartphone and through close collaboration with our partners but by setting a new standard in premium smartphones.”

Sony Xperia Z1 Features
The centrepiece of the Sony Xperia Z1 is its rear camera. Incorporating a Sony G Lens, 20.7-megapixel 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS CMOS sensor and Bionz image processing engine, the Sony Xperia Z1 crams a lot of camera tech into one smartphone.

Offering a f2.0 and 27mm wide angle lens, the rear camera also offers 3x digital zoom, which Sony says when coupled with the high shutter speeds allows the shots to remain clear even at a distance.

There’s a new All Sync feature with the Xperia Z1, which allows users to auto-upload all their images and videos to the PlayMemories Online cloud service without storage limits.

Camera specs aside, the Sony Xperia Z1 has a speedy 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM and a hearty 3000mAh battery.

Coming complete with 4G LTE connectivity, the Xperia Z1 also has IP55 and IP58 dust and water-resistant certification to keep it future proof.

The Sony Xperia Z1 has a 5-inch Full HD Triluminos display, and includes the same X-Reality resolution technology as the Xperia Z.

Supporting memory cards up to 64GB via its microSD card slot, there’s 16GB of internal storage too.

Sony is also offering a two month trial of its Music Unlimited streaming service via the Sony Entertainment network with the Xperia Z1.

Sony Xperia Z1 Release Date and Price
The Sony Xperia Z1 will be available across the world in September, in purple, black and white. Pricing details have yet to be announced.
