Sony Xperia L details leaked

Recent leaks suggest Sony could be working on a mid-range variety of its recently launched Sony Xperia Z, in the form of the Sony Xperia L.

Citing a “reliable source”, Xperia Blog has offered details on the Sony Xperia L handset, which could use a 4.3-inch FWVGA touchscreen display with a fairly unimpressive 480 x 854 resolution.

Currently codenamed TaoShan, the Sony Xperia L should sport a similar virtual button display to the flagship Sony Xperia Z and could incorporate a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor alongside Adreno 305 graphics. The handset won’t be a gaming powerhouse, but should offer 8GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card and a 1700mAh battery.

The mid-range handset could also play host to an 8-megapixel camera based on Sony’s Exmor RS sensor that features in the Sony Xperia Z. As with the 13-megapixel snapper of its beefier brother, the technology should allow the Sony Xperia L to produce better images in low-light scenarios, but the lower resolution camera could affect the quality.

Again, like the Sony flagship, the Sony Xperia Z will ship with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, rather than the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS found in the Google Nexus 4.

The leak also revealed the dimensions of the rumoured Sony Xperia L. The device should measure 128.7mm x 65mm and be just 9.7mm thick with its 4.3-inch screen, making the handset fairly pocket friendly as a smaller form of the 5-inch Sony Xperia Z.

At the moment, there’s no mention of the phone’s design, or whether the handset will be waterproof, but it is probably safe to assume it will follow in the Sony Xperia Z’s design heritage. The Sony Xperia L release date and price tag is also unknown at this point, but could be launched alongside other rumoured handset Sony Xperia SP.
