Sony Xperia i1 specs leak again, tipped for September IFA reveal

New Sony Xperia i1 specs have leaked online, revealing a 20.7-megapixel ExmorRS sensor and a potential IFA launch.

We could be seeing the Sony Xperia i1 “Honami” camera-centric smartphone revealed at IFA in September, with the latest leaks suggesting it will pack a 20.7-megapixel rear camera.

A leak coming courtesy of Taiwanese site ePrice suggests that the Sony Xperia i1 will feature a high-end 20.7-megapixel ExmorRS camera sensor, which is around the same size as the one in the Samsung Galaxy Camera.

However, the Sony Xperia i1 camera will be powered by Sony’s Bionz image processing technology and will feature a Sony G Lens.

In the front, there’s a 2-megapixel Exmor R camera, but this obviously pales in comparison to that beefy rear camera.

Playing host to Qualcomm’s latest super-speedy 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and a 3000mAh non-removable battery, the Sony Xperia i1 will be a very powerful smartphone.

With 16GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card as well, the Sony Xperia i1 will certainly be a strong contender to other recently release camera-centric smartphones like the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom.

Like the Sony Xperia Z and Sony Xperia Tablet Z, the Xperia i1 will have NFC connectivity and be IP55 and IP57 certified for waterproof and dustproof protection.

As seen in the leaked Sony Xperia i1 press pictures, the smartphone will follow the design heritage set by the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra phablet.

Expect to see the Sony Xperia i1 launched at the Berlin-based IFA conference in September, alongside other devices like the heavily rumoured Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

IFA takes place on September 6 – 11, but Sony is having a press event on September 4.
