Sony Xperia C4 gunning for selfie smartphone stardom

Sony has announced two new camera-focused smartphones in hopes of wooing the selfie crowd.

Titled the Xperia C4 and the Xperia C4 Dual, Sony’s new handsets are part of its ‘next generation PROselfie smartphones’ line-up.

So how does it manage these purportedly glorious selfies? It’s thanks to a 5-megapixel front-facing camera that comes paired with a 25mm wide-angle lens.

The usual image tech is stuffed in, including Sony’s Exmor R mobile sensor, a soft LED flash, and HDR.

The rear-facing camera doesn’t exactly slack either, offering a 13-megapixel image resolution, auto-focus, and HDR.

A few funky apps are bundled with the basic camera software too, including Style portrait – that lets you edit your selfie with styles like ‘vampire’ and ‘mystery’. Right…

“Following the success of Xperia C3, we are proud to introduce Sony’s evolved PROselfie smartphone,” said Tony McNulty, a VP at Sony Mobile. “Xperia C4 caters to consumers that want a smartphone that not only takes great photos, but also packs a punch.”

He continued: “Benefiting from Sony’s camera expertise, the 5-megapixel front-facing camera with wide-angle lens lets you capture perfect selfies, while its quality display and performance features provide an all-round advanced smartphone experience.”

Right, selfies are on point. What else is going on with the C4? It’s got a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display, a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek processor, and a 2,600mAh battery allegedly good for nearly 13 hours of talk time.

There’s also 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage inside, all breathing life into the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

The Xperia C4 has 4G/LTE support, while the C4 Dual is, unsurprisingly, a dual-sim offering.

Sony confirmed to TrustedReviews that the Xperia C4 will not be coming to the UK, but it’s due to launch in ‘select markets’ in June 2015.
