Sony shuts the door on the official PlayStation forums

The official PlayStation message boards are closing down, Sony announced in a very brief post last Friday.

Sony is encouraging gamers to interact with each other on PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation’s official social media pages to fill the void the forum will leave in their lives when it closes on February 27.

The company also recommends users visiting Playstation’s support page for help with consoles and other PlayStation products.

PlayStation community manager Groovy Matthew shared the bad news with fans on Valentine’s Day:

Hello,

Beginning 27th February, the PlayStation.com forums will no longer be available.

We invite you to continue the conversation via PlayStation.Blog, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. For product support, please visit the support site, Playstation.com/help/.

The PlayStation forum is the latest of Sony’s online communities to get the axe.

The Sony Xperia forums saw a similar message in early January, though in Xperia’s case users are being redirected to Sony’s generic location-specific forums in the US, Canada, Asia Pacific and Europe.

Sony also promised to move older content to the new communities, hopefully preserving some of the more obscure Xperia issues and how users can resolve them.

“We aim to transfer parts of the existing content to these new Communities, but it might take some time before it is completed”, wrote Sony in its announcement last month.

“We will keep this forum open for comments for some time but please note that any comments posted from now on will not be transferred. Members from USA, Canada and Asia Pacific can begin using these Communities now. Members from Europe should continue to use the current Mobile Forum until it is closed down”.

It is unclear right now whether Sony will give the PlayStation forums a similar treatment but as is it looks as though the PlayStation community will be forced to find a new place to chat and troubleshoot the PS5 when it comes out.
