Sony has lifted the lid on two new PS4 controllers that will land in Europe later this year.
The gaming giant has partnered with peripheral makers Razer and Nacon to develop new licensed Dualshock 4 controllers for the PS4. They’ll both be available “this holiday season”, but pricing remains a mystery for now. According to Sony, the controllers have been designed with competitive gamers in mind, so we’d imagine they’ll carry a fairly hefty price tag – certainly more than the a standard £45 Dualshock 4 controller.
The first of the pair is called the Razer Raiju, and it’s described as a “tournament-grade” controller designed for eSports competitions. Here’s a quick overview of its features:
- Two extra bumpers
- Two extra detachable triggers
- Built-in control panel on front
- Trigger-stop switches
- Hair-trigger mode for fast responses
- Two custom profiles (instant switching available)
- 3.5mm headset jack and dedicated volume and mic mute controls
- Detachable analog stick rubber caps (for extra grip)
The Razer Raiju is compatible with all PlayStation 4 models, and connects using a detachable 3-metre USB cable.
Next up is the Nacon Revolution Pro Controller, which was purportedly built in collaboration with pro-gamers – for maximum pwnage, or something. Here’s what you can expect:
- 46-degree amplitude dual-anaolog sticks
- Four extra shortcut buttons
- Eight-way directional pad
- Four custom profiles
- Two internal compartments with six additional weights
The Nacon Revolution is also compatible with all PlayStation 4 models, and (again) comes with a 3-metre detachable USB cable.
“To give our competitive and pro players more choice, we invited Razer and Nacon to use their knowledge and expertise in developing eSports peripherals to design two unique pro controllers for PS4,” said Andrew Mason, Brand Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe. “Through close collaboration we’ve been able to help optimise each controller for PS4 – incorporating innovative Dualshock 4 controls and ensuring gamers can enjoy a plug and play experience with any model of PS4.”
