Sony: ‘PS4 will be in good supply over the holidays’

Sony has spoken out on its upcoming next-gen console, suggesting that the PS4 will be “in good supply” over the holiday period despite ongoing reports of stock shortages.

With a PS4 release date to see the Xbox One rival hit the UK on November 29, Sony has claimed that it has looked to avoid frustrating gamers by ensuring that PS4 stocks will be strong enough to satisfy strong demand around the upcoming Christmas period.

I think through the holiday season that we’ll be in good supply [of the PS4],” Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, Andrew House has stated. “The sales target that I announced for the company is five million units sold by the end of our fiscal year. March 31, 2014.”

Speaking in a recent interview with GameInformer, he added: “[This is] the first platform launch that I’ve ever been involved with where we’ve had such a good production ramp up and a good sense of supply. I think that we will be in good supply in the countries that we’ve launched in.

“We are ensuring that we have the broadest reach to ensure that people are satisfied, especially when they’ve been loyal to brand for so long,” House stated. “On the other hand, we’re not engendering frustration by having a shortage of supply.”

Despite House’s promises of good PS4 supply around the festive period, Amazon UK has already confirmed it has sold out of pre-Christmas availability of the next-gen console.

Making the announcement late last week, Amazon has confirmed that all new PS4 pre-orders will now not be shipped until after the holiday season is over.

“Customers who pre-order this console from November 14 will receive their consoles after Christmas,” a statement on the retailer’s PS4 listings page reads.
