Sonos is rolling out the Play:5 speaker’s Trueplay feature to some of the older devices in the range.
The automated tuning feature, which adjusts the audio output depending on the conditions and positioning in the home, will be rolled out for the first Play:5 as well as the Play:3 and Play: 1 speakers.
Trueplay uses the microphone on an iOS device (Android support coming soon) to measure how sound reflects off walls furniture and other surfaces around the room.
Then it “adjusts your speaker to make sure it sounds great no matter where you’ve placed it,” according to Sonos.
That means if it’s tucked away in a corner, beneath the TV or stuffed onto a shelf, Trueplay will find a way to adjust the audio to ensure it sounds as the artist intended.

There’s no word yet on when the Android app will arrive, but iOS users can access the feature by updating to the latest version of the Sonos app and heading to Room settings. Perhaps you Android folks can borrow an iPhone or iPad to assist with setup in the meantime?
