Sonic Mania Plus gets a release date with adorable new trailer

Sonic Mania Plus is coming to PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on July 17, Sega has announced.

The retro-platformer’s upcoming release was confirmed with a new trailer echoing the gorgeous animation of its original launch.

Mania Plus will launch with two new playable characters in the form of Mighty and Ray, each of which come with their own unique abilities.

Intended as an updated version of last year’s Sonic Mania, Plus will receive a physical release across all platforms for £29.99.

The physical edition will include special holographic packaging, a 32-page artbook and a reversible cover inspired by classic Mega Drive packaging.

Plus introduces a Encore Mode, a multiplayer feature where four-players can compete and play alongside each other using all available characters.

Sonic Mania is a wonderful homage to classic Sonic titles and, as a result, is the best the franchise has been in decades:

“If you’ve been waiting for Sonic to become relevant for some time, you don’t have to wait anymore. Mania has righted all those wrongs and then some.”
