Skype 3.2 Integrates Paypal, Hotmail & Gmail

No standing still here...

While .x updates to most products mean little more than stability patches and security upgrades Skype seems determined to add major value every step of the way.

With Skype 3.2, the VoIP giant again hasn’t sat on its laurels but instead added a wealth of new features including video snapshots which can be added to your profile, a ‘Send Money’ option to enable seamless Paypal payments and a boosted history function that covers not only prior texts and emails but also transactions and voice conversations.

That’s not all. Address books can now also be imported from Hotmail and Gmail (amongst others) while Skype has taken a leaf out of Gmail’s book with a “Share Skype” invitations button that enables you to mail anyone in these contact lists who hasn’t already signed up. Naturally, the app’s call quality has also received a spit and polish with improved background noise reduction and echo cancellation.

“Skype has always been committed to giving people the best internet calling experience possible and we feel we’ve hit the mark with the latest version,” said Carter Adamson, Skype’s Director of Desktop Products. “Now you can really individualise your profile and make it even more unique with video snapshot, put all the contact details for your online relationships in one place and enjoy exceptional sound quality so much so that you feel like you’re actually in the same room as the person you’re calling.”

We’ll forgive Adamson his last sentence of blatant marketing waffle since right now the company is clearly trying – and impressing – with every new Skype incarnation.
