The company today revealed a batch of 40 new apps for the Xbox 360 console. Most of these are specific to certain regions, but one is available in all Xbox Live regions – SkyDrive.
As with the existing SkyDrive smartphone app and the original web-based service, the new app allows you to view pictures and videos stored in the cloud. This time, however, they’ll be beamed to your living room TV.
As well as allowing you to view these files on your television set, Microsoft has also focused on what it’s calling ‘Snap and see.’ This ties in with its Windows Phone OS and allows owners of devices like the Nokia Lumia 820 and HTC Windows Phone 8X to instantly see freshly snapped photos appear on the SkyDrive app’s camera roll.
Of course, there are also SkyDrive apps for iOS and Android, so the core image and photo sharing functionality is available regardless of your smartphone preference.
Microsoft also focused on an element it calls ‘Party slide show,’ which means that you can quickly set-up a looping photo presentation to put on during parties. The SkyDrive Xbox 360 app also comes with full voice and gesture support for use with the Kinect add-on.
To download the new Microsoft SkyDrive app for your Xbox 360 console, you’ll find it in the Social category of the Apps section.
Other than SkyDrive, UK Xbox 360 owners will be able to download a Napster app. This grants access to accounts on the new-look Napster, which is a Spotify-like music streaming subscription service.
