Sky: 3D TV isn’t ‘dead for us’

Sky has shied away from 3D content in recent times, despite being a forerunner in the space.

But the company insists that it hasn’t given up on 3D, even after axing its Sky 3D channel earlier this year.

With no mention of 3D at today’s Sky Q launch, we asked Sky Executive Kathryn Lacey whether Sky had overestimated customer interest in technology.

“It’s not that 3D is dead for us,” Lacey told TrustedReviews. “We’ve still got all of our 3D content available on On Demand.”

She continued: “And actually that’s a great way for…people to watch the films and content they want on their terms.”

Although Sky shuttered the Sky 3D on June 9, 2015, customers can still access 3D content using On Demand streaming.

Lacey says this shows consumers that there’s still an interest in continuing with 3D in the future.

“I don’t think there’s anything for customers to be concerned about, from that perspective,” the Sky exec explained.

She added: “Even though we didn’t talk specifically about 3D today, everything that you enjoy on Sky+ today, you will continue to get on Sky Q as well when it comes to TV.”
