The Sharp Smart IntelliDos takes most of the faff out of doing the laundry

Sharp has unveiled the shiny new Smart IntelliDos, a washing machine that takes most of the faff out of doing the laundry, at IFA 2018.

It’s an Amazon Dash Replenishment washing machine, which means it’s smart enough to calculate and use exactly the right amount of detergent (both powder and liquid) and softener for up to 20 loads, track your usage of those products, and automatically order fresh supplies when it thinks you’re running low.

The likes of Bosch, Siemens, Beko, Candy and Hoover, by the way, are also working on washing machines that play nice with Dash Replenishment.

The Amazon Dash and Dash Replenishment services have been sneered at for sometimes being infantile, but a washing machine that can largely look after itself is something we can get on board with for a couple of reasons.

Washing machines and cleaning supplies − for obvious reasons − tend to be kept out of sight, and are therefore easy to forget about. And the hefty boxes and bottles that detergent and fabric softener are sold in aren’t much fun to drag home from the shops.

Before you can start taking advantage of Dash Replenishment, you first need to register the Smart IntelliDos to your Amazon account, and input your preferred detergent and softener, payment method and shipping address.

Once that’s done, all you need to do is load up the washing machine drawer compartments and choose a wash programme.

Though the Smart IntelliDos will calculate and distribute precise amounts of detergent and fabric softener with every load, you can either raise or lower the dosage by diving into the settings.

Whats’ more, if that tweak results in the IntelliDos placing an automatic re-order a touch too soon, you can cancel it − the machine will wait a further five days before re-re-ordering.

It also offers extremely speedy 12-minute wash cycles for when you’re running low on time, and with a feature called Auto Load Sensor, it can calculate and set the ideal energy and water usage, and programme duration for every load too.

Sharp says the Smart IntelliDos will hit the market in Q2 2019, and it will cost approximately €999 (~£900).
