Series Stacking Comes To iPlayer

Never miss an episode of your favourite BBC TV shows again...

While we take great offense at being called Apple fanboys (no one in the office uses a Mac, though four of us are partial to the iPhone) we will happily admit to being big fans of the BBC and its helpful moves like this that make our hearts swoon…

The ever ingenious iPlayer is never a site to stand still having redesigned its layout and upped video quality alone in recent months and now content is having a welcome expansion.

Vitally iPlayer will at last drop its seven day old programme restriction – in our minds the one drawback compared to say, Channel 4’s service – and extend it to cover the entire duration of a show’s series. Dubbed ‘Series Stacking’ it means viewers need never worry about missing a single episode of their favourite programmes and will be a big boost to the Beeb with heavyweight shows such as ‘Merlin’, ‘Tess of the ‘d’Urbervilles’, ‘Little Dorrit’ and ‘Survivors’ on the way.

“Series stacking will really make the unmissable, unmissable,” said BBC Vision’s Controller of Multiplatform and Portfolio, Simon Nelson. “Now, you’ll be able to join a series half way through following a friend’s recommendation and catch up on all the previous episodes – or watch them all in one go over a weekend. Series stacking marks a key development in our strategy to let audiences view our programmes whenever and wherever they want.”

This funky new feature will launch on 13 September making it little over two weeks away.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, Riyad, Andy and I are all headed to IFA and I have a plane to Berlin to catch…
