Get the chance to show off with your feral side in Barbarian Invasion.
The crafty licence nabbing bods over at Sega have done it again. This time their latest capture is the first expansion pack for the immensely popular and incredibly brilliant Rome: Total War.
The coup comes as a result of Sega’s recent acquisition of development studio Creative Assembly as it had been down previously as an Activision title and will no doubt rankle most of the company’s big wigs.
As for the game itself, Rome: Total War – Barbarian Invasion (is this the first time a game has used colons and hyphens in the same title?) is set 200 years after the original. The last Emperor of a unified Rome has kicked the bucket and an all out struggle is about to begin for power. Making matters worse, barbarians are amassing around Rome’s borders ready to rape, pillage and generally do things of a nasty nature to all before them.
Interestingly, (and great news for the psychotic amongst you) the pack will let gamers side with the barbarians if they wish, not just one of the Roman factions like last time. It also chucks in more than 100 new units to fiddle with (that came out wrong) and the usual array of new buildings and technologies to exploit. For the first time, there will also be battles at night.
Ominously Barbarian Invasion promises to be even larger than RTW and given that it took my strategy genius friend a whole six months to complete the first one (hi Chris!), this is not a challenge to be entered into lightly.
Scheduled release is for September, so sharpen up those swords, ready the horses, get your blood lust going and start eyeing up ripe maidens. This one should be a corker.
