Konami remain tight lipped about most things, but just mentioning the name itself is cause for wild celebration.
Celebrations are due (in theory at least), since Konami has given away the first details of Pro Evolution Soccer 5.
Pro Evolution Soccer (or Pro Evo to fans and “PES” to lazy assed journos) is the crème de la crème of football simulations. It kicks all rivals in a cocked hat and anyone who is not overly impressed with flashy intros, licensed bands/leagues and the like (eg, the hardcore) know this to be true.
Certainly EA’s FIFA soccer series has improved, but throwing money at something doesn’t make everything better (if it did Robbie Williams would sound like John Lennon, American cars would drive like they were made in Europe and Microsoft Windows would work like Tiger). Anyway, for now we’ve got vagaries like “(PES5) expands on the realism and total control” and not much else.
We do know the Master League will return, online play will be introduced on PS2 and improved on PC (it couldn’t have been much worse) and be just as good as it was on Xbo, and that a mouth watering PSP version is likely…
Apart from that we’ve just got this early batch of screenshots and stills never do PES justice. Release will be this autumn (the Japanese edition, called “Wining Eleven”, is set for August, so perhaps add on four to six weeks). Until then hang on to these revelatory details from Konami Euro head Kunio Neo: “both newcomers and die-hard fans alike will be extremely pleased with what we have to say”.
Ummmm, thanks Kunio…
