Samsung’s new T5 SSD is super fast, super small, and affordable

Samsung has just unveiled its latest SSD offering, in the form of the T5, which comes boasting impressive speeds in a compact case.

The T5 portable SSD is built with Samsung’s latest 64-layer V-NAND technology, and offers speeds of up to 540 MBps – about as fast as Sammy’s desktop SATA SSDs but not quite as speedy as an M.2 drive.

You’ll also get an included USB-C to USB-C cable alongside a USB-C to USB-A cable for those that need some backwards compatibility.

The T5 is an impressive offering from the company, which has managed to house all that tech inside a case about the size of a business card, and which weighs just 51g.

Un-Soo Kim, Senior Vice President of Brand Product Marketing, Memory Business at Samsung said: “We are confident that the T5 will exceed consumers’ expectations for external storage by offering faster speeds and a solid design that is lightweight and conveniently pocket-sized.

“It is the ideal portable storage product for consumers and professionals who are in search of a fast, durable and secure device.”

The AES 256-bit hardware encryption should also ensure your files are nicely protected, plus there’s a three-year warranty on the T5.

You can pick up the T5 in four different sizes and two colors. The “Alluring Blue” hue offers 250GB and 500GB options, while a”Deep Black” version comes in 1TB and 2TB models.

Obviously, you’ll pay more for the higher storage capacities, with the 2TB drive starting at a whopping $799.99 (about £620).

If you’re not prepared to drop that kind of cash on an SSD, you can pick up the 250GB T5 for $129.99 (about £100), which isn’t a bad price considering the T5’s capabilities.
