Samsung’s 2020 4K QLED TV range aims to be its strongest line-up yet

At its European Forum event in Valletta, Malta, Samsung revealed more details about its forthcoming 2020 QLED TV range

While the focus at the start of 2020 was on 8K, the South Korean company hasn’t forgotten about its bread and butter sets. The company has high ambitions for its QLED 4K lineup, with Samsung claiming 2020 will be its strongest yet.

The Q60T, Q70T, Q80T, Q90T and Q95T models are coming to market in the next few months, and are available in sizes from 43 to 83-inches.

The TVs come jam-packed with features such as Samsung’s Adaptive Picture. It uses AI technology to analyse ambient light conditions, as well as what’s on the screen, to adapt the TV’s picture to suit bright and dark viewing conditions.

One of Samsung’s innovations for this year is the Active Voice Amplifier, which works by detecting background noises and adjusting the clarity of voices/sound to minimise the effect.

The Object Tracking Sound+ (OTS+) is available across the entirety of the 2020 QLED TV range. It generates a three-dimensional sound effect (even if it wasn’t mixed that way originally) by combining multiple speakers on the top, side and bottom of the TV in concert with a proprietary AI algorithm. Samsung says it “perfectly matches audio with the on-screen action”.

What else has Samsung included for 2020? Well, there’s the Q-Symphony multi-speaker implementation to talk about. For the first time, when a Samsung Q Series soundbar connects to a 2020 QLED TV, the top and side speakers will remain active, and work with the soundbar to deliver “a richer, fuller surround sound”.

Samsung TVs will also include a choice of a number of voice assistants. Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are supported, alongside Samsung’s own Bixby. Disney Plus has been confirmed for Samsung’s QLED TV range in time for its March 24th release, adding to QLED’s already large library of video streaming apps.
