Samsung will preload future Android tablets with Microsoft Office

Samsung has announced that it plans to pre-install Microsoft Office on a selection of upcoming Android tablets.

The company hasn’t detailed which tablet models will get the services; only that they will land with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive, and Skype straight out of the box.

SangChul Lee, Samsung’s executive VP of the Strategic Marketing Office for the company’s IT & Mobile Division, said: “Our goal is to meet the ever-evolving needs of both consumers and business customers and give them more power to discover new mobile experiences.”

“We believe our suite of premium mobile products coupled with Microsoft’s productivity services will offer users the mobility they need in both their personal and business life.”

If this added bloat doesn’t suit your tastes, however, then you’ll be able to ditch all the apps with relative ease. Earlier today we reported on evidence that suggests Samsung will enable users to uninstall pre-installed apps on its new device.

Both Samsung and Microsoft already detailed the beginnings of this partnership deal at Mobile World Congress earlier this month.

At the time, Samsung confirmed that both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge would ship with OneDrive pre-installed, with users given 100GB of free cloud storage on the service for two years.

This new deal, however, will see both the aforementioned handsets and a range of Samsung tablets given access to Microsoft’s Office software suite.

Peggy Johnson, executive VP of business development at Microsoft, said: “Great things happen when you converge services and devices.”

“Our partnership with Samsung is emblematic of our efforts to bring the best of Microsoft’s productivity services to everyone, on every device, so people can be productive wherever, however, and whenever they want.”
