Samsung Unveils World’s Smallest Full HD Camcorder

1080p video recording from something little larger than a compact digital camera...

Clearly Full HD camcorders are only going to get smaller and there tends to be one company in particular who likes to be attain these ‘World Firsts’ before anyone else…

So meet the Samsung ‘HMX-R10’, the world’s smallest 1080p/Full HD camcorder which measures just 130 x 38 x 58mm and weighs only 229g – little more than many compact cameras.

Size and resolution aren’t the R10’s only tricks however since Samsung has managed to cram a 9MP sensor inside for stills (12MP using interpolation) with 5x optical zoom and a sizeable 2.7in flip out touchscreen display. Predictably, flash memory is the storage method choice but rather more eyebrow lifting is the clever (and in my experience unprecedented) form factor which angles the lens at 25 degrees to make gripping the camcorder more comfortable.

A swanky take on the mini camcorder market, the HMW-R10 certainly looks well equipped to take on far larger opponents, at least on paper. We won’t have to wait long to find out how it holds up either with Samsung stating the R10 will appear as soon as next month.

Well, I said it doesn’t like being beaten to the punch…
