Samsung UHD TVs get Amazon and Netflix on demand services

Samsung has announced it’s bringing Amazon and Netflix’s ultra high definition (UHD) on demand services to Europe. The Korean company is expanding its UHD offering ahead of the IFA trade show, which kicks off in Berlin next week.
Amazon’s UHD service will launch globally on Samsung’s 4K TVs in October. Netflix’s UHD platform, which has been available in the U.S. since March, is also being added. The move means 4K streaming is at last gaining traction.

Samsung is also bringing a string of other UHD services on board, including those from Wuaki.tv, CHILI and maxdome.

The move follows Samsung’s the release of the company’s 500GB UHD video pack in July, which came loaded with movies including Life of Pi and Star Trek: Into Darkness. Live UHD broadcasts of World Cup warm up games in Portugal and a host of content in its native South Korea have also helped Samsung gain an edge on its rivals in the 4K sector.

Samsung is expected to show offf a number of UHD TVs ate IFA next week, including its huge 105–inch curved model.

“The popularity of UHD content is really starting to grow. Key to maintaining this and giving consumers what they want is wide variety and choices that reflect their bespoke interests,” said Robert King, Vice President of Consumer Electronics for Samsung UK & Ireland.

“We are pleased to expand the array of UHD content that our consumers can enjoy on our ultra-immersive Curved UHD TVs.”
