Samsung will reveal an enhanced version of its Exynos 5 Octa system-on-a-chip next week, the company confirmed on Thursday.
The original iteration of the eight-core processor made headlines for all the right reasons when it was launched in January at CES 2013 in Las Vegas.
However, despite announcing the flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 with the Exynos Octa 5, Samsung upset European and American fans by only launching the quad-core variant in western territories.
Now in a tweet sent out by the official Samsung Exynos account on Thursday, the company announced that the processor has been improved to become even more powerful than before.
Who knows? Perhaps we’ll even see this version of the chip land in devices bound for Blighty like the rumoured forthcoming Galaxy Note 3 update?
The company said: “A new Exynos 5 Octa is coming next week!”
“Year after year, we strive to improve the power and performance of our Exynos processors. Now it’s time for the next step in our evolution – a more powerful, enhanced Exynos 5 Octa!”
The Exynos 5 is based on UK chip designer ARM’s BIG.little technology. It has two quad-core CPUs, one to do the heavy lifting and another to handle the more mundane, low powered task. The overall effect is dramatic performance enhancements and longer lasting battery life.
We’re interested to see what Samsung has up its sleeve next week and can only hope it’ll be boosting UK-bound devices in the near future.
