Samsung Smartwatch reportedly shown in leaked images
With Apple Watch rumours running rife, Samsung looks set to get in on the techy timepiece act with a Samsung Smartwatch reportedly leaked in new online images.
Dubbed the Samsung Galaxy Altius, the claimed Samsung Smartwatch would reportedly see the Korean manufacturer rival the repeatedly leaked Apple iWatch, once again reigniting the on-going Apple vs Samsung battles that have seen the two companies duke it out in the mobile markets.
More than a simple timepiece, the Samsung Smartwatch is said to be an extension of users’ mobile lives with the newly leaked images, which have appeared via a Korean message board, showing off a device that offers instant message and notification alerts.
Said to host a touchscreen display with a relatively low-key 500 x 500p image resolution, the Samsung Galaxy Altius SmartWatch looks set to run Google’s Android OS (although the images show a distinctly Windows Phone 8 UI), with an integrated MP3 player adding to the wrist-worn gadget’s smart appeal.
Whilst the leaked Samsung Smartwatch images are far from official and should be taken with a considerable pinch of salt, the reports offer a potentially tantalising insight into the future direction of the company widely expected to launch a Samsung Galaxy S4 handset in the coming weeks.
Although a selection of Smartwatches are already available, including the likes of the I’mWatch and the Casio G-Shock GB6900AA, interest in the emerging market kicked into overdrive in recent weeks following reports Apple was currently working on its own Apple iWatch.
With the mooted Apple iWatch said to play host to a curved glass display, the Cupertino company is said to be planning a wearable gadget launch later this year ahead of a full-scale attack into the personal gadget markets.
Citing “two people familiar with the company’s plans,” latest reports have hinted that “Apple has a team of about 100 product designers working on a wristwatch-like device that may perform some of the tasks now handled by the iPhone and iPad.”
