Samsung Smart Home platform launched at CES 2014

Samsung has showcased a new single integrated Samsung Smart Home platform at CES 2014.

The Samsung Smart Home platform will enable Samsung smart TVs, home appliances and other smart devices to be controlled via one integrated platform.

According to Samsung, the company is also extending the Samsung Smart Home platform to third-party manufacturers in order to make the platform more widely usable by consumers.

“With Samsung Smart Home, we are bringing our capabilities as the world’s number one manufacturer of smart devices to make the connected home a reality for consumers today,” said Wonpyo Hong, President of Samsung’s Media Solutions Centre. “In the coming days, we will continue to roll out better home services to our consumers to enable  them to keep enjoying a brand new experience of ‘Smart Living and Beyond’.”

The Smart Home platform will initially provide three main features to users: Device Control, Smart Customer Service and Home View.

When travelling abroad or even just when you’re not at home, you can use your smartphone or tablet to monitor your smart devices and controlling their functions, such as turning on the lights remotely.

Samsung will also introduce voice commands that can be used to control several appliances at once. For example, you could say ‘going out’ to your Samsung Galaxy Gear for your TV, lights and other select appliances to be switched off. Or you could say ‘good night’ to your TV remote for the TV to switch off and your lights to slowly dim until they are completely off.

The Home View feature will enable users to take a look at their home via cameras built into the smart appliances.

Samsung Home’s Smart Customer Service would be used to remind you when to service your appliances or restock the fridge, and provide after-sales assistance.

In the future, Samsung will extend the Smart Home service to home energy, home security and healthcare applications.
