Samsung S9 4K 85-inch TV pricing and availability revealed

Samsung has revealed pricing and availability information for its mammoth 85-inch 4K TV, the Samsung S9.

The Samsung S9 was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week alongside the likes of the Samsung 55-inch OLED TV F9500. However, while we got a good look at the UHD TV set’s impressive specs and unique mounting system, there was no word on price or availability.

That’s all changed now that details of an initial launch in Samsung’s native South Korea have emerged.

The Samsung S9 will be going up for pre-order very soon at a price of 40 million won – which works out at about £23,465 going by the current exchange rate.

Despite its imminent launch, there are a few caveats. For one thing, only 77 Samsung S9 units will be sold in this initial batch. Another downer is that there’s still no information on a wider launch outside of Samsung’s home territory.

The Samsung S9, as we revealed last week, offers a stunning 3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution, known as 4K or UHD. We’re talking four times the resolution of Full HD 1080p.

Obviously there isn’t much UHD content out there to take advantage of this new resolution at present, but the Samsung S9 has a quad-core Exnos processor (similar to what you’d find in smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S3) capable of upscaling 1080p and even 720p content to the new standard.

This can even be upgraded when it grows a little long in the tooth thanks to Samsung’s modular Smart Evolution system.

Also notable is the Samsung S9’s Timeless Gallery frame, which suspends the virtually bezel-less screen in a free-standing frame.
