Samsung’s Tizen-powered remote will control your living room

Samsung has announced a new universal remote control, powered by Tizen, alongside an update to its Smart Hub TV interface.

The remote will control nearly all devices connected to a Samsung Smart TV.

This means that any Blu-Ray players, games consoles, or other devices connected to the TV will only require one remote.

The company also announced an updated version of teh Smart Hub user interface integrated content and services platform.

With the refreshed interface, users can search through popular titles, something which Samsung says will “eliminate the barrier between sources and devices connected to a TV”.

Users can also customise their own Smart Hub interface by arranging their favourite content and entertainment selections on the home screen.

Recently, Samsung said it would be integrating its smart home platform, SmartThings, into all of its Smart TVs.

While the entire 2016 Samsung Smart TV range will enable you to control IoT devices, the SUHD TVs in particular will be able to act as hubs or controllers for the entire smart home.

This could mean that the new remote control may work with other connected devices from lights to thermostats.

No official word on the integration of smart home tech with the remote has come yet, but more information should become available as CES gets underway.
