Samsung’s curved quantum dot gaming monitor finally launches

Samsung showed off its impressive-looking CFG70 at Gamescom and IFA 2016, and now the curved gaming monitor has been officially launched.

The CFG70 is the first curved gaming monitor to feature quantum dot tech, with the company saying the whole thing has been “designed specifically for professional gamers”.

Quantum dots are incredibly small particles that directly convert the light from Blue LEDs into highly saturated narrow band primary colors for LCDs, resulting in higher peak brightness, better colour accuracy, and high colour saturation.

Coming in 24 and 27-inch models, the screen promises to reproduce accurate colors across a 125 percent sRGB spectrum.

It also comes with an impressive 3,000:1 contrast ratio, so images should appear suitably dynamic, and the combination of advanced motion blur reduction technology and the VA panel results in a 1 ms moving picture response time (MPRT).

The rapid MPRT rate “reduces display transitions between moving and animated objects”, which means you should experience less visual distractions when gaming.

Elsewhere there’s AMD’s FreeSync Technology over HDMI functionality to synchronize the screen’s 144 Hz refresh rate with your AMD graphics cards. For those with the right components, that should minimise image tearing, input latency, and stutter.

Samsung has also provided “a dedicated gaming interface” which should make modifying and personalising gameplay settings easier.

The company is referring to the curved form factor as a “Super Arena” design, which doesn’t mean much to us but basically translates as a 1,800R curvature and a 178-degree ultra-wide viewing angle.

Samsung has previously said you’ll be able to get your hands on the CFG70 models later this year for $399 (about £300) and $499 (about £380), but TrustedReviews has contacted the company to confirm official details.
